Family, Wealth, & Tax Attorneys

Our family law practice provides comprehensive representation to individuals and families across a broad range of family and matrimonial matters in New Jersey, New York, and Florida, including uncontested and contested divorces, complex high net-worth matters, child custody and parenting time disputes, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, post-judgment enforcement, domestic violence matters, and restraining orders.

Cross-border family law is a significant part of our practice. Our principal attorney is admitted in England and Wales, the Republic of Ireland, and the Republic of Türkiye; in addition to being admitted in New Jersey, New York, Florida, and District of Columbia. This multi-jurisdictional background allows us to assist clients with international custody disputes, relocation matters, foreign divorces and orders, enforcement issues, and family law disputes involving parties, children, assets, or legal proceedings in multiple countries.

Our firm advises individuals, families, fiduciaries, and beneficiaries on estate planning, trusts, probate, estate administration, tax planning, and related litigation. We assist clients with wills, trusts, succession planning, asset distribution, and the administration of estates and trusts, including federal and state tax considerations affecting estates, trusts, and beneficiaries.

We represent executors, administrators, trustees, beneficiaries, heirs, and family members in contested estates, fiduciary disputes, inheritance claims, accounting matters, tax-related disputes, and disputes concerning the interpretation or administration of wills and trusts. Our approach combines practical guidance with strong advocacy to protect our clients’ assets, intentions, tax liability, and other legal rights.

We also assist with international and cross-border estate and tax matters involving assets, beneficiaries, fiduciaries, or legal proceedings in multiple jurisdictions.

Fiduciary Litigation

Our fiduciary litigation practice represents beneficiaries, trustees, executors, administrators, shareholders, company directors, officers, and other fiduciaries in disputes involving breaches of fiduciary duty, conflicts of interest, mismanagement, self-dealing, accountings, removal proceedings, contested distributions, and misuse of trust, estate, or corporate assets. We handle complex matters involving both private wealth and closely held businesses, with particular attention to financial records, governance obligations, and the duties owed by fiduciaries to those whose interests they are entrusted to protect.

Cross-Atlantic Private Client Services

We advise individuals and families with personal, estate, succession, tax, and wealth-planning matters spanning the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Our cross-Atlantic private client practice is designed for clients with assets, family connections, residences, business interests, inheritance or succession concerns across these jurisdictions. We assist with estate planning, probate and estate administration, trusts, inheritance matters, cross-border succession and tax considerations. Where appropriate, we coordinate estate, inheritance, income, gift, and other tax considerations as part of a broader cross-border private client strategy.

We also advise on cross-border family law matters, including international divorce, child custody and relocation, financial support, and the recognition and enforcement of family court orders across jurisdictions.

Who we are

Güvenç Acarkan holds a JD degree from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Law degree from Galatasaray University in Turkey. He also earned an MBA from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, and a BA from Koç University. His academic path began at the American Collegiate Institute in İzmir, where he developed the intellectual discipline and global outlook that would later guide his multidisciplinary career.

He began his professional journey in New York City’s financial district, working for major national corporations and concentrating on quantitative analysis, financial modeling, and complex transactional assessments. This early immersion in high-level finance provided him with a rigorous analytical foundation and a strategic approach to problem-solving—skills that ultimately shaped the way he practices law.

As he advanced academically, he continued refining his professional trajectory by studying law while simultaneously working full-time in finance. This dual-track path allowed him to blend financial expertise with legal reasoning, creating a unique framework for evaluating risk, structuring transactions, and understanding the commercial realities that clients face. As he expanded his admissions into additional jurisdictions, his career carried him abroad, first to Turkey and later to England, where he practiced law and gained a deeper appreciation for international legal systems, cross-border disputes, and comparative legal frameworks.

In 2023, after years of cultivating experience across multiple countries and industries, Güvenç Acarkan made the pivotal decision to establish his own law firm in Jersey City, New Jersey. This step represented the natural culmination of his professional evolution—a moment where his background in New York finance, his international legal practice, and his multidisciplinary education converged seamlessly. Driven by a commitment to delivering sophisticated, globally informed, and client-centered legal solutions, he founded a practice that reflects his strategic insight, his international perspective, and his dedication to providing comprehensive and elevated legal representation.

Today, Güvenç Acarkan’s practice focuses heavily on complex matrimonial litigation and fiduciary disputes, particularly matters involving substantial assets, closely held businesses, trusts, estates, and contested financial interests. He represents clients in high-net-worth divorce and family law matters, including disputes involving business valuation, asset tracing, support, equitable distribution, and cross-border property concerns.

His fiduciary litigation practice includes disputes involving trustees, executors, beneficiaries, heirs, and other fiduciaries, with particular attention to contested estates, breach of fiduciary duty claims, trust administration, inheritance disputes, and complex asset distribution issues. His background in finance provides an added advantage in cases requiring detailed analysis of financial records, ownership structures, and valuation issues.

Admitted in New Jersey, New York, Florida, the District of Columbia, England and Wales, Ireland, and Türkiye, he brings a broad international perspective to disputes involving parties, assets, and legal interests across multiple jurisdictions. His approach combines careful legal analysis, financial sophistication, and focused litigation strategy to protect his clients’ interests in complex and high-stakes matters.
